It has been proven that the required performance of the ASD can be
achieved in standard CMOS, however much work remains. Another prototype
chip will be submitted this year in
CMOS to
test a programmable shaper and calibration pulse circuit.
Further prototypes will be fabricated in a sub-micron process (the
HP
process will be discontinued in 1997).
The current goal is to have a complete 8-channel ASD prototype ready by
1998.
In addition, work proceeds on the design of the PC board and readout system. A custom ROD (Read-Out Driver) must be developed, with an interface to the TDCs on the front-end board.
